Blog Archive B-School Chart of the Week September 2016 Social Currency Rankings

Blog Archive B-School Chart of the Week September 2016 Social Currency Rankings Rankings come in all shapes and sizes, but can any ranking truly capture social cachet? For a different perspective on the value of an MBA, we turn to the  New York Times  society pages, where the editors select and profile promising couples. Each month, we dedicate one B-School Chart of the Week to tallying how alumni from top-ranked business schools are advancing their social currency ranking. The year’s busiest wedding season is behind us, but MBAs took advantage of the last opportunities to host summer weddings in September. In fact, the New York Times profiled 23 weddings involving MBAs last month, one more than in August. Harvard Business School (HBS) students and graduates were especially eager to walk down the aisle, as is evident in the three weddings where both the bride and groom were HBS MBAs. One couple, Roanna Wang and Nathan Bruschi, are currently pursuing their respective HBS degrees! Overall, the school was mentioned in five profiled weddings, one involving Wang and Bruschi’s fellow classmate, Kiernan Schmitt. Yale was the alma mater of another couple, Kate Liberman and Eric Gershman, who both received MBAs and MFAs from the school. How to Register as a Government Contractor

For thousands of small businesses, contracting for the sale of their goods and services to the federal government agencies opens the doors of growth, opportunity and, of course, prosperity. But before you can bid on and be awarded government contracts, you or your business must be registered as government contractor. Getting registered as a government contractor is a four-step process. 1. Obtain a D-U-N-S Number You will first need to obtain a Dun Bradstreet D-U-N-S ® Number, a unique nine-digit identification number for each physical location of your business. D-U-N-S Number assignment is free for all businesses required to register with the federal government for contracts or grants. Visit the D-U-N-S Request Service to register and learn more about the D-U-N-S system. 2. Register Your Business in the SAM Database The System Award Management (SAM) resource is the database of vendors of goods and services doing business with the federal government. Sometimes called â€Å"self-certifying,† SAM registration is required by the Federal Acquisitions Regulations (FAR) for all prospective vendors. SAM registration must be completed before your business can be awarded any government contract, basic agreement, basic ordering agreement, or blanket purchase agreement. SAM registration is free and can be done completely online. As part of SAM registration process you will be able to record your business’ size and socio-economic status, as well as all FAR-required solicitation clauses and certifications. These certifications are explained in the Offeror’s Representations and Certifications - Commercial Items section of the FAR. SAM registration also serves as a valuable marketing tool for government contracting businesses. The federal agencies routinely search the SAM database to find prospective vendors based on goods and services provided, size, location, experience, ownership and more. In addition, SAM informs the agencies of firms that are certified under the SBA’s 8(a) Development and HUBZone programs. 3. Find Your Company’s NAICS Code While it’s not absolutely necessary, chances are you will need to find your North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code. NAICS codes classify businesses according to their economic sector, industry, and location. Depending on the products and services they offer, many businesses may fit udner multiple NAICS industry codes. When you register your business in the SAM database, be sure to list all of its applicable NAICS codes. 4. Obtain Past Performance Evaluations If you want to get in on the lucrative General Services Administration (GSA) contracts -- and you should want to -- you need to get a Past Performance Evaluation report from Open Ratings, Inc. Open Ratings conducts an independent audit of customer references and calculates a rating based upon a statistical analysis of various performance data and survey responses. While some GSA solicitations for bids do contain the form to request an Open Ratings Past Performance Evaluation, vendors may submit an online request directly to Open Ratings, Inc. Items You Will Need for Registration Here are some of the things you will need when registering your business. Your NAICS codesYour DUNS - Data Universal Numbering System numberYour Federal Tax Identification Number (TIN or EIN)Your Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codesYour Product Service codes (optional but helpful)Your Federal Supply Classification codes (optional but helpful) Obviously, all of these codes and certifications are geared toward making it easier for the federal government purchasing and contracting agents to find your business and match it to their specific needs.   US Government Contracting Rules to Know Once you are registered as a government contractor, you will be required to comply with several laws, rules, regulations, and procedures when doing business with the government. By far the two most important of these laws are the aforementioned Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and the 1994 Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act (FASA). However, there are many other laws and regulations that deal with government contracting. Government Contracting Procedures Briefly Each agency of the federal government conducts business with the public through three specific authorized agents, called contracting officers. These officers are: The Procurement Contracting Officer (PCO)—awards contracts and deals with contract terminations in the event the contractor defaults on the terms of the contract. The Administrative Contracting Officer (ACO)—administers the contract. The Termination Contracting Officer (TCO)—deals with contract terminations when the government chooses to terminate the contract for its own reasons. Depending on the situation, the same person may the PCO, the ACO, and the TCO. As a sovereign entity (the sole ruling power), the federal government retains rights that commercial businesses do not have. Perhaps most importantly, the government has the right to unilaterally change the terms of the contract, provided that the changes are within the general parameters of the contract.

Since the distinction between input tests is not as much as a whole info sample, the quantity of bits required for transmission is diminished. As a result it reduces in throughput required to transmit the voice signals. Utilizing DPCM can lessen the bit rate of any voice transmission down to 48 kbps. Working and advantage: The initial segment of DPCM works precisely like PCM so called derived function PCM. The info sign is sampled at a constant sampling absolute frequency (two times the stimulation frequency). Then these samples are modulated using the PAM appendage. The Role Of Socioeconomic Status And Behavior As...

As a native born African-Ghanaian, I have lived in an underserved community in Ghana where there is a disproportionate burden of disease, so I understand the role of socioeconomic status and behavior as determinants of health. This inspires me to pursue a career in public health where I can help to control epidemics in Africa and other underserved communities worldwide. My career interest is to work in conjunction with non-profit organizations to research the etiology of diseases, distribution, and preventive measures, and to increase public awareness through health education. My ultimate goal is to team up with health professionals and policy makers to help eliminate health disparities in the world. Based on the knowledge and experience I intend to gain, I am very optimistic that I will be able to make rational proposals and write grants that will improve health policies and interventions. My interest in disease prevention and control motivated me to study Public Health as my undergraduate program at Temple University. During my undergraduate course work, I developed a great interest in the field of epidemiology due to a strong passion for health-related research. My research area of interest is to analyze and simplify the mechanism of the pathogenesis of hypertension and other vascular abnormalities affecting minority populations, particularly African Americans. The Eastern Grey Squirrel free essay sample

Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Rodentia Family: Sciuridae Genus: Sciurus The eastern gray squirrel, or Sciurus carolinesis, is from the eastern and midwestern United States, and also to the eastern provinces of Canada (Wildlife Profiles). As the name states the eastern gray squirrel has gray fur but it can also have reddish fur and in some very rare cases black fur. Its belly is white and it has a long bushy tail. The average size of one of these squirrels is about 18 oz and the length, including the long bushy tail, being 18 inches long (Animal Diversity Web). The eastern gray squirrel’s habitat consist of large areas of mature, dense woodland ecosystems. These forest that they live in usually contain large areas of vegetation so they are more able to feed the abundance of squirrels living there. The squirrels generally prefer making their dens in large tree branches and also within the hollow trunks of trees. We will write a custom essay sample on The Eastern Grey Squirrel or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Eastern gray squirrels have also been known to make their den from abandoned birds nest. The dens usually consist of moss plants, thistledown, dried grass, and feathers (Wildlife Management Guide). These are used to help insulate the den and keep everyone warm and away from the harsh environments. Close to humans, eastern gray squirrels are found in parks and backyards of houses within urban environments and in farmlands of rural environments (Wikipedia). Fruit and seeds provide for most of the squirrels diet. The squirrels most important food being the acorn that is produced by our many oak trees. Mushrooms are also a favorite (Animal Diversity Web). The eastern gray squirrel has been introduced to western North America, western Canada, South Africa, Ireland, and England (Wikipedia). Because of their mass population they have declined the population of red squirrels. A plan to help get rid of the squirrels in England is to have master chefs promote the idea of eating the squirrels (Wikipedia). Another plan that the U. S, has come up with is to burn some forest, Because that way it would burn the squirrels home and help some of the blue berry bushes to grow back (Wildlife Management Guide). What i think we should do as a proper way to regulate the squirrel population is do what we do with wild cats. With wild cats the USPCA will catch them and have them fixed so they are unable to reproduce. How we will do this is in over populated areas of squirrels we will set traps, mind you the traps should not harm the animals. And we will choose some females to be unable to reproduce. I believe this will dramatically reduce the squirrel population to a number we are all happy with.

What Makes Me Different From Other Applicants

With millions of students applying to college every year, it shouldnt come as a surprise that they are all trying to find out what they can do to set themselves apart. What makes them different? We asked our s from Miami University, Stony Brook, UC Berkeley, UPenn and Northwestern what they thought made them unique:10152847319757653FB Miami University - Oxford ‘15 My academic transcript consisted of mostly dry, intense classes (AP Statistics, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB). I also took a course on neuroscience in high school. However, my passion at the time was photography. I entered competitions and spent a lot of time in the darkroom and did an independent study in photography after I finished the highest course they offered at my school. The well-rounded notion of being both a science mind and an artistic mind I think set me apart from most. My essay discussed very specific moments in my photographic endeavors and I think admissions officials found those depictions intriguing. Sometimes its better to give them a very finite moment rather than try to arbitrarily describe yourself in an overarching manner. rhandy Stony Brook University - SUNY ‘18 I was part of a medical program my senior year. I sacrificed a lot by being in the program because I was away from my home school and classmates every day while working in the hospital. It was advanced placement and I wasnt able to sit back and relax my senior year like a lot of my peers did. Although many people say I missed out on my senior year, it was worth it in the long run. Also, I played three sports (Varsity level) all year round and I was also a member of basically every club my school offered and went to states every year for competition with one of the main clubs I was part of; colleges love to see that youre involved in a lot AND that youre able to balance your grades with all of those activities. Bhenrique UC Berkeley ‘19 I overcame an Auditory Processing Disorder which is very rare. An audiologist when I was younger told me I was going to be a C+ student the rest of my life, but I fought through and have worked hard to be where I am. Furthermore, I was the first high school intern employed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education of Massachusetts STEM office.allym896 Northwestern ‘18 Something that Northwesterns engineering school is trying to cultivate is a sense of community and support for each other and foster more of a teamwork and collaboration kind of environment. My Common Application essay had nothing to do with academics or engineering or honors of some sort. Instead, I wrote about how my musical experiences shaped me and my attitude. I emphasized how I became more collaborative and holistic as a result, and I believe that this attitude recommended me to the environment McCormick School of Engineering is trying to create. Penn17 University of Pennsylvania ‘17 I think what really set me apart is that in addition to having good grades I was very involved in extra curricular activities and took initiative to get what I wanted from a very young age. An example of this was that I emailed Penn labs when I was 14 years old and ultimately received a position at the Dreyfuss Laboratory and the head of the lab wrote me a recommendation letter for Penn which definitely made me application stand out. The Horses in All the Pretty H essays

The Horses in All the Pretty H essays In his novel, All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy presents us with a young mans journey through the regions of the unknown into adulthood. This novel, at once a western, a coming of age story, and a picturesque adventure, gives the story of John Grady Cole, the last in a long line of west Texas ranchers. As McCarthy moves through this tale, one finds that humans do not remain its sole motivators. As the title suggests, horses play an intricate part in the development of the storyline. In fact, the novel is centered around horses. Throughout, one finds the characters riding horses, rescuing horses, catching horses, breeding horses, talking about horses and even pondering their nature. The horses in All the Pretty Horses serve as the center around which the novel grows and depends. McCarthy introduces John Grady Cole, 16, at his Grandfathers wake held at his familys small Texas ranch. In this first chapter, John finds that, despite numerous efforts on his part, his estranged mother intends to sell the family ranch that she has inherited from the grandfather. In addition, Johns father, Cole, and his mother have recently divorced; thusly, Cole has given up any rights to the land and is unable to keep the familys land. With no apparent future in Texas, and sensing the threat a new era upon the traditional cowboy life that he values, John urges his friend Rawlins to accompany him to Mexico. Before reaching the border, they meet Jimmy Blevins, an even younger boy, who rides a magnificent bay. The three boys continue on into Mexico where they become vaqueros at the Hacienda de Nuestra Senora de la Purisima Conception. John meets Alejandra there, the daughter of the hacendado. Eventually, we find that these star-crossed lovers are not meant to be. John and his friends are thrown in prison for stealing a horse that had belonged to Blevins. In actuality, it is Alejandras father who turns...
